Thank you for your honest opinion... However, all that really matters is how the client and I feel about the photo.... I liked it, they loved it, nuff said... I've been on this site for 8 years, this is the first DD I've received. I'm grateful and honored... I've never campaigned or ever entered any type of photo contest, so this means a lot to me.. That someone considered and liked one of my photos well enough to be included with so many other beautiful works of art. I think that's cool.
I joined DA to showcase my work.. I also wanted to hear/ read what real photographers thought about my work, good or bad... I'm OK with bad reviews, as long as you add why you thought that photo was boring, nothing unique or just plain sucked... Tell me how I can improve.. That's what constructive criticism is all about, right? On the lighter side, if you browse my gallery, you'll see I get a lot, I mean a lot of hot, beautiful, OK, girls in my pool... I win!!!! ")
Unfortunately art's subjective--what's "superior" to what depends on who you ask. Don't worry, tomorrow's top DD will be a yellow pony, and those fan-kids can tell me the same thing.
I freely admit I don't know jack about professional photography, I can only go on instinct, that first impression that tells me if it's quality or not. I know we all relate to different things on many levels, but an uncomfortable woman standing in the pool under shitty lighting just didn't touch my soul.
That guy can have little faith in his own work and still see that this is an extremely simple picture. The lighting and contrast looks great, but the model looks bored out of her mind, the flowing piece of fabric looks out of place and it just looks like a 'boring' picture. Nothing, except for the water behind the model, grabs my attention as something DD worthy.
